Todd - The Axe Man is one of the most famous IPA beers from Amager Bryghus, originally created in collaboration with Todd Haug, the former head brewer at Surly Brewing in the United States. The beer is brewed in the American IPA / West Coast style, with a focus on a clean hop profile and without unnecessary sweetness.
The base uses Golden Promise malt, which provides a smooth, rounded mouthfeel and a subtle malt backbone. The stars of the recipe are Citra and Mosaic hops, used generously, especially in the dry-hopping phase.
The aroma is intensely fruity - mango, pineapple and papaya - supported by citrus notes and a light herbal edge. The flavor balances juicy hop character with a dry, crisp bitterness, without caramel heaviness that would mask the hops.
The body is medium, smooth and drinkable, with a clean finish that invites another sip. With an ABV of around 6.5-7% (depending on the batch), it offers presence without becoming heavy.
Todd - The Axe Man is often mentioned as one of the beers that helped position Amager Bryghus on the international craft scene, combining American hop attitude with Scandinavian technical precision. The result is an IPA that is direct, expressive and uncompromising in aroma.
