Mekhong is Thailand’s iconic golden spirit and the country’s first domestically produced branded spirit, first introduced in 1941 by Bangyikhan Distillery. Although it is often referred to as a Thai whisky, it is technically closer to a spiced rum, as it is distilled from 95% sugar cane molasses and 5% rice before being blended with a proprietary mix of Thai herbs and spices. Bottled at 35% ABV, Mekhong is known for its distinctive aromatic profile featuring notes of ginger, cinnamon, star anise, vanilla, honey and caramel, balanced by a subtle herbal character and a smooth finish. Its complex flavor makes it suitable for enjoying neat, over ice or in cocktails, particularly the signature Thai Sabai. Named after the Mekong River, the spirit has become a symbol of Thai heritage and is widely recognized as “The Spirit of Thailand.” Produced continuously for more than eight decades, Mekhong remains one of the country's most celebrated spirits and an enduring icon of Thailand’s distilling tradition.
