Grande Cuvée is the flagship red wine of Bessa Valley, produced in Ognjanovo in Bulgaria’s Thracian Valley. The blend is typically based on Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with proportions adjusted each vintage to achieve the ideal balance of structure and aromatics.
The grapes are hand-picked and sorted on vibrating tables to ensure that only perfectly ripe and healthy berries enter the vinification process. Fermentation is carried out in stages - beginning with cold maceration to preserve fresh aromas, followed by controlled alcoholic fermentation, and finishing with a longer warm maceration to extract tannins and depth.
After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 18 months in new French barrique barrels, which is a key characteristic of this cuvée and the source of its pronounced complexity. In the glass, it shows a very deep, almost opaque garnet color.
The aromatic profile reveals layers of black cherry, blackberry and plum, woven together with notes of chocolate, spices, roasted nuts and vanilla, with the oak influence integrated rather than dominant. On the palate, it is concentrated, full-bodied and powerful, with firm yet ripe tannins and a long finish that highlights its aging potential.
The texture is dense and viscous, yet refined enough to retain elegance.
