Distillerie Damoiseau

3.2 ·
Distillerie Damoiseau, located in Bellevue near Le Moule on the island of Grande-Terre (Guadeloupe), is a family-owned estate distillery founded in 1942. It is the only active distillery on that part of the island and the leading local producer of agricole rum, holding over 50% of the Guadeloupean market. The production process begins with hand-harvested sugarcane that is processed the same evening; fermentation lasts 24–36 hours in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by distillation in a continuous column made of copper and steel, resulting in a clean, fruity rum style. The distillery produces over 8 million liters annually and exports to more than 40 countries, confirming its strong global presence. Damoiseau blends traditional methods with modern technology while preserving the authentic terroir-driven character of rural Guadeloupe rum. Visitors can enjoy tastings at the on-site “Cabane à Rhum” and explore the historic Bellevue estate, where tradition and terroir go hand in hand.

It began producing agricole rum in 1910 on an estate that previously operated as a sugar plantation and refinery in the 19th century. Since then, Bielle has upheld a strong commitment to artisanal tradition and technical innovation, staying true to the principles of hand-harvested sugarcane, fermentation of pure cane juice, and column distillation. Known for its distinctive terroir expression and experiments with local cane varieties, Bielle has become a symbol of quality and sustainability on Marie-Galante, preserving the island’s identity and environmental balance throughout its production process.
