Vinarija Aleksandrović

4.9 ·

Vinarija Aleksandrović is one of the most prominent names in modern Serbian winemaking, located in the village of Vinča near Topola, on the slopes of Oplenac in the heart of Šumadija. The vineyards stretch across dozens of hectares in some of the finest sites of the Šumadija wine region, where the combination of altitude, abundant sunshine, and mineral-rich soils gives the grapes notable aromatic complexity. The winery applies contemporary oenological techniques and maintains strict yield control to ensure high quality in every vintage.

In the cellar, the wines are matured using methods that blend tradition with a modern approach - aging in stainless steel, a mix of new and used barriques, and careful monitoring of each label’s development. A strong emphasis is placed on terroir expression, with the wines reflecting the Šumadija character through freshness, structure, and minerality.

The winery also offers guided tastings, cellar tours, and wine experiences, making it one of the most visited wine destinations in Serbia.

Komplet lepinja

4.5 ·

This delicacy consists of a traditional flatbread (lepinja) that is cut in half, coated in thick cream (kajmak), and topped with an egg. The combination is shortly baked and should be doused with a mixture of warm meat drippings, which is locally known as pretop. Komplet can be loosely translated as with everything in it, and is traditionally associated with Užice and Zlatibor. It is believed to have originated sometime before WWII, and the name was officially registered by Dragan Lazić, a current owner of the bakery Kod Šuljage in Užice. Although it is nutritious and highly caloric, the dish is commonly enjoyed for breakfast and is best paired with a glass of yogurt or sour milk on the side. Pork Rinds

Duvan čvarci

3.9 ·

Duvan čvarci is a version of pork cracklings originating from Serbia. Unlike the usual pork crackling, duvan cracklings contain only 10% of fat, which is the reason for their unique flavor. Another distinct feature is their appearance, which is reminiscent of thinly cut tobacco. Just like regular cracklings, duvan cracklings are often served as an appetizer. They’re considered a delicacy because the preparation process takes a long time and results in small quantities of the cracklings. Duvan cracklings are primarily associated with the city of Valjevo, where the Duvan čvarci festival is held every year.

This rindless cheese has a semi-hard texture and it's usually cut into thick slices before consumption. The aroma is pleasant and floral, and the flavor is mild, slightly salty, and milky. Cured Beef

Užička pršuta

3.9 ·

Užička pršuta is a variety of smoked meat that has been traditionally prepared in the mountainous district of Zlatibor, namely in Čajetina, Užice, and Nova Varoš municipalities. This meat specialty came to be known as užička pršuta because it used to be sold in Užice along many other regional products at the time. Beef, pork, and mutton can be used for the preparation of this meat product, although the most traditional is smoked beef meat, which is known as užička goveđa pršuta in Serbia. The finest beef pieces from parts of the legs, tenderloins, sirloins, and the low end of the back of 4 to 6-year-old oxen are salted, then smoked with dry beech wood, and dried in the cool mountain air. The final product is distinguished by a dark brownish-red exterior, a dark red interior with a nice marbling, and a strong beef flavor. Cake

Vasina torta

3.8 ·

Vasina torta or Vasa's cake is an absolute classic of Serbian cuisine consisting of a walnut sponge base, a creamy filling made with walnuts, chocolate, and oranges, and two additional toppings – šaum (a mixture of egg whites, sugar, and a bit of water) and chocolate. The cake dates back to 1908, when it was prepared as a gift from a mother-in-law to her son-in-law, Vasa Čokrljan from Paraćin, who took his wife to Vienna so she could give birth in better conditions than in Serbia. It should be noted that oranges were a real treasure in Serbia in 1908, which is one of the main reasons why this cake was so precious and valuable. Since then, the cake became a staple in every Serbian home, and it is regularly prepared for festive events such as birthdays and weddings.

09
Cheese

Sjenički sir

3.8 ·

Sjenički sir is a soft, white, and brined cheese made with either sheep's or cow's milk produced in the Sjenica-Pester plateau in southwest Serbia. Even though there are two types of Sjenički sir, the production is the same whether speaking of sheep's milk cheese or cow's milk cheese. First, the raw fresh milk is mixed with rennet and left to curdle. Once the curd has formed, it is placed in cloths and weighed to separate the whey. Once the weighing, which takes 4 to 6 hours, is done, the curd is cut into slices and placed in, traditionally, a wooden barrel. The slices are arranged in layers, and a generous sprinkling of salt is applied to the bottom of the barrel and added between each layer of curd. Once stacked, the cheese is weighed with a hard object, either a stone or a wooden object, then left to ripen, while completely submerged in whey, anywhere from 20 to 60 days. Sjenički sir has been given the designation of geographic origin in Serbia and there's plans of including in on the list of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is typically eaten as an appetizer, accompanied by cold cuts, but can be used in the preparation of various dishes as well.

10
Appetizer

Živa pljeskavica

2.5 ·

Živa pljeskavica is an appetizer made with ground veal, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, paprika flakes, Vegeta, oil, and chopped onion. The meat and spices are placed on a large plate and mixed with a fork until they form a homogenous mass that is then shaped into a patty. The dish was created at the restaurant Kod Bore in Sedlari near Valjevo in Serbia, and it's a take on a dish eaten by hospitality workers in state-owned restaurants in the former Yugoslavia. Because they were pressed for time, they would typically eat a raw meat patty tucked into a warm lepinja flatbread for lunch. Živa pljeskavica is served with grilled bread or lepinja flatbread and salt and paprika for seasoning and is usually consumed while waiting for one's order of grilled and barbecued meats to arrive.
