El Nido is the flagship wine of Bodegas El Nido and one of the most striking examples of modern winemaking in the Jumilla region. It is made from a blend dominated by Monastrell, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, using grapes from old vineyards planted on high-altitude, stony soils.
These demanding conditions naturally limit yields and produce fruit of great concentration and depth. Winemaking begins with strict grape selection and carefully controlled fermentation to preserve purity and structure.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels, which add complexity without overpowering the natural character of the fruit. In the glass, El Nido shows an intense, almost opaque color that reflects its richness and power.
Aromatically, it opens with layers of blackberry, black cherry, and ripe plum. These are followed by notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, sweet spices, and subtle smoky tones.
Behind the fruit, gentle earthy and mineral nuances reveal the character of the Jumilla terroir. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, yet remarkably balanced.
The tannins are firm but finely polished, giving the wine structure without harshness. A well-integrated acidity adds freshness and keeps the profile vibrant despite its intensity.
The finish is long, warm, and persistent, with lingering impressions of ripe fruit and spice. El Nido can be enjoyed relatively young, but it truly shines with bottle ageing.
Over time, it develops tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and dried herbs. The wine pairs especially well with roasted meats, game, and rich, slow-cooked dishes.
El Nido stands today as a benchmark for how the Monastrell grape can reach world-class status when matched with precise winemaking and exceptional terroir.
