Trappistes Rochefort 10 is the strongest and most complex beer produced by the Trappist brewery Brasserie de Rochefort, managed by the monks of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy in Belgium. This beer is a true representative of the Belgian Quadrupel style, with an alcohol content of 11.3%, a rich body, and a pronounced aromatic profile.
It was first brewed in 1950, and to this day it has retained its nearly unchanged recipe and artisanal production under the strict supervision of the monastic community. Rochefort 10 is a dark brown beer with ruby highlights, topped by a thick and persistent foam. Its aroma reveals deep notes of dried plums, raisins, caramel, dark chocolate, spices, and refined yeast esters.
The taste is exceptionally layered – blending a sweet opening with nuances of dark fruit, spices such as pepper and nutmeg, mild hop bitterness, and a warming alcohol presence that is seamlessly integrated. The texture is dense and velvety, with a warm and lasting finish. Fermentation is carried out using the abbey’s own yeast strain, and the beer is neither filtered nor pasteurized.
It continues to age in the bottle, allowing it to develop new aromatic depths over time. Thanks to its structure and strength, Rochefort 10 is well-suited for aging and long-term cellaring, and is often compared to fine wines for its ability to evolve with time.
