Saison Dupont Vieille Provision is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale with a brewing tradition that dates back to 1844. The beer pours a clear golden color with a rich, dense head and strong carbonation, which allows it to remain slightly cloudy due to its unfiltered and bottle-conditioned nature.
Its aroma is dominated by ripe pears, earthy undertones, and herbal-spicy hints, with noticeable phenolic herbal notes. On the palate, it is dry, with a peppery finish and a mild tart base, accompanied by the distinctive Belgian spicy-pepper character.
The alcohol content is around 6.5% ABV, offering a balanced and refreshing profile that makes it ideal for deceptively warm summer days. Dupont brews it in Tourpes, in the province of Hainaut, Wallonia - home to one of the last remaining traditional farmhouse breweries in Europe.
The name “Vieille Provision” refers to an old-style recipe and long fermentation process that adds to its complexity. The beer undergoes bottle refermentation, meaning it continues to mature in the bottle after packaging, with the resulting carbonation contributing to a lasting, creamy head.
It pairs excellently with spicy food, smoked fish, cheeses like aged gouda, and peppered red meats.
