Cuvée Freddy is a sour ale from Brouwerij Alvinne that represents their interpretation of the Flemish Oud Bruin style, enhanced by additional aging in red wine barrels. The base of the beer is the dark sour ale “Sigma” but for Cuvée Freddy only selected barrels are used to achieve a more layered aromatic profile.

Fermentation is carried out with their proprietary Morpheus yeast, which brings gentle acidity and dryness, while barrel aging adds elegant tannins and subtle wine character. The aroma typically reveals notes of dried dark fruit such as plum and raisin, accompanied by slight oxidative nuances characteristic of wood maturation.

On the palate, the flavor moves between acidity and caramel-malt tones, which is unusual for sour ales of this type. The red wine barrels contribute hints of cherry, woody spice, and a touch of warming alcohol.

Produced in small batches, the beer is often available only through specialty shops or as part of limited releases. It is ideal for slow tasting and comparison with classic Oud Bruin examples.
