Brouwerij Lindemans is a Belgian family brewery specializing in lambic and beers made from this spontaneously fermented base. Its history began in 1822 following the marriage of Joos Frans Lindemans and Francisca Josina Vandersmissen, the daughter of a brewing farm owner in Vlezenbeek. Brewing initially supplemented the farm’s agricultural activities but gradually became its principal business. The historic brewery is located in Pajottenland near Brussels, within the traditional production area of authentic lambic. This beer style is produced from malted barley, unmalted wheat, aged hops, and water. After brewing, the wort is left to cool overnight and naturally exposed to microorganisms present in the local air. Fermentation therefore begins spontaneously without the addition of a conventional commercial yeast culture. The resulting lambic matures in tanks or wooden barrels before being served independently or used for blending and fruit beer production. The brewery’s range includes traditional styles such as gueuze, faro, and kriek, together with varieties made with raspberries, peaches, apples, and other fruits. Its Cuvée René range places particular emphasis on traditional methods, prolonged maturation, and secondary fermentation in the bottle. The brewery remains under the management of the sixth generation of the Lindemans family while combining its historic site with expanded modern production facilities. Lindemans beers are exported to more than 50 countries, making the company one of the most internationally recognized producers of Belgian lambic.
