Carpano Antica Formula is an Italian sweet vermouth that represents a modern interpretation of Antonio Benedetto Carpano's original 1786 recipe, when the first modern vermouth was created in Turin. It is produced from carefully selected Italian white wines sourced from Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, and Sicily, which are blended with a mixture of aromatic herbs, spices, and roots according to a traditional recipe that remains a closely guarded secret. The production process combines hot infusion and cold extraction techniques, while selected botanicals undergo months of processing to develop their full aromatic profile. The vermouth is particularly distinguished by its pronounced notes of natural vanilla derived from beans sourced from Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, and Tahiti, as well as the addition of high-quality Iranian saffron. It is characterized by a deep amber color and a complex aromatic profile featuring notes of dried fruit, citrus, spices, cocoa, and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with a well-balanced combination of sweetness and a distinctive bitter finish. With an alcohol content of 16.5% ABV, Carpano Antica Formula can be enjoyed chilled as an aperitif or digestif, but it is especially appreciated as a key ingredient in classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, Negroni, and Americano.
