L’Élixir Végétal de la Grande-Chartreuse is a concentrated herbal elixir produced by Carthusian monks according to a recipe more than two and a half centuries old, based on a manuscript from 1605 containing the formula for an “elixir of long life”. It was first made in 1764 at the Grande-Chartreuse Monastery in the French Alps and continues to be produced today exclusively in limited quantities.

It contains extracts from 130 carefully selected herbs, flowers, roots, barks, and spices, prepared through a strictly controlled and secretive process known only to a few monks. With an alcohol content of 69%, Élixir Végétal is extremely potent and is not intended for casual drinking; instead, it is consumed in small doses as a digestif, tonic, or aromatic additive.
