Chateau Musar Gaston Hochar Rouge is a red wine that represents the most personal expression of the winery’s philosophy and serves as a tribute to its founder, Gaston Hochar. It is predominantly made from Cinsault, with smaller portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan, sourced from old vines planted on gravelly limestone soils in the Bekaa Valley at around 1,000 meters of elevation.
The grapes are harvested by hand, and each variety is vinified separately - fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete vats to preserve purity of fruit and an authentic sense of place. After blending, the wine ages in French barriques for about 12 months, followed by several years of additional bottle aging before release.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with subtle garnet hues. The nose reveals layers of red cherry, dried herbs, spices and leather, alongside Musar’s recognizable notes of dried plum and gentle oxidative complexity.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with refined tannins, fresh acidity and a long finish where fruit and secondary aromas intertwine. The style is both classic and distinctive, and its structure gives it excellent aging potential.
Gaston Hochar Rouge is considered the wine that most faithfully conveys the identity of Musar - a combination of tradition, resilience and the unmistakable character of the Bekaa Valley terroir.
