Château Valandraud is a renowned estate in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, founded in the late 1980s by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, and widely recognized as one of the original “garagiste” producers. From the beginning, the estate was built on a small-scale, high-precision approach, focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard work, and intensive selection to achieve concentration and quality.

The vineyards are spread across several small parcels with clay-limestone soils, typical of Saint-Émilion, which contribute to both structure and minerality in the wines. The blends are dominated by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting the right-bank style of Bordeaux.

Winemaking is modern and controlled, with fermentation in small vats and aging in a high proportion of new French oak, enhancing richness and texture. The wines are known for their intensity and depth, often showing ripe black fruit, plum, chocolate, spice, and toasted notes, alongside a polished tannic structure.

Despite their power, they maintain balance and precision, especially as they evolve in bottle. Château Valandraud gained significant recognition over time, eventually achieving Premier Grand Cru Classé B status in the Saint-Émilion classification.

Its style represents a shift toward more concentrated, opulent Bordeaux wines, while still retaining a clear connection to its terroir.
