Le Bourg Saumur-Champigny is the most prestigious and rarest wine produced by Clos Rougeard, sourced from a small, exceptionally old parcel planted entirely to Cabernet Franc on deep tuffeau and limestone soils near Chacé in the Saumur-Champigny appellation. This site naturally delivers very low yields and highly concentrated fruit, forming the foundation of a wine renowned for its density, finesse, and remarkable longevity.

The aromatic profile weaves together blackcurrant, dark plum, cherry, and graphite, accompanied by earthy undertones and delicate spice notes that unfold with extended aging. On the palate, Le Bourg is tightly structured, focused, and profoundly deep, with firm yet refined tannins and a pronounced mineral character derived from the tuffeau soil.

The winemaking approach remains entirely traditional: spontaneous fermentation, long, gentle aging in older barrels, and minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to express itself fully. In its youth, Le Bourg appears concentrated and closed, but over time it develops intricate layers of tobacco, beeswax, dried herbs, and dark fruit while maintaining impeccable balance and elegance.

It is regarded as one of the purest and most powerful expressions of Cabernet Franc in France and a benchmark example of the extraordinary potential of the Clos Rougeard philosophy.
