Old Chungus is a bourbon-barrel-aged Scottish-style Wee Heavy ale from Confluence Brewing in Des Moines, Iowa. The beer ages in bourbon barrels, which impart pronounced notes of vanilla, oak and caramel.

It has a high alcohol content, around 11.5%, yet the alcohol is well integrated into the rich malt backbone. The flavor profile combines caramel, dark chocolate and dried fruit, while the bourbon character adds warmth and complexity.

The texture is thick and almost syrupy, with a long, warm finish that lingers on the palate. Because of its structure and strength, it is meant to be sipped slowly, more like a tasting beer than a refreshing one.
