Coopers Sparkling Ale is a traditional Australian ale and one of the oldest beers produced by Coopers Brewery. It was first made in 1862 based on the brewing methods developed by the company’s founder Thomas Cooper. The beer is also commonly known as Red Label after its distinctive label colour. It undergoes natural conditioning with Coopers’ proprietary yeast following packaging. This secondary fermentation produces natural carbonation and may leave the beer slightly cloudy with visible yeast sediment. Sparkling Ale has a deep golden to amber colour and an alcohol content of 5.8 percent. Its bitterness is measured at approximately 32 bitterness units. The aroma combines fruity and floral notes while the flavour has a pronounced malt character supported by firm hop bitterness. Its finish is dry clean and persistent. Compared with Coopers Original Pale Ale it has a higher alcohol content as well as a fuller malt profile and more noticeable bitterness. Coopers Sparkling Ale remains a historically important product for the brewery and a well-established example of the Australian sparkling ale style.
