Pomorosso is Coppo’s flagship wine and one of the most influential Barbera wines ever produced in Piedmont. First released in 1984, it played a key role in redefining the reputation of the Barbera grape by demonstrating its ability to produce complex, age-worthy wines of exceptional quality.
The wine takes its name from a red apple tree that grows on the hilltop above the original vineyard from which it was created. Produced from 100% Barbera grapes grown in the Nizza DOCG area, Pomorosso comes from carefully selected vineyards planted on calcareous clay soils rich in gypsum and iron.
After fermentation, the wine matures for approximately 14 months in oak barrels, developing greater depth and refinement. Its aromatic profile combines ripe cherry, blackberry, plum, violet, cocoa, tobacco, and sweet spice notes with subtle balsamic nuances.
On the palate, it is rich, powerful, and beautifully structured, balanced by Barbera’s naturally vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. Widely regarded as a benchmark expression of Barbera, Pomorosso has received numerous prestigious awards and remains one of the iconic wines of Piedmont.
