Einbecker Brauhaus is a German brewery based in the town of Einbeck in Lower Saxony. Its tradition is rooted in local beer production documented as early as April 28, 1378 when two barrels of Einbeck beer were sold to the town of Celle. During the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, several hundred citizens of Einbeck held brewing rights. The town council purchased surplus production, supervised quality, and organized sales in German and international markets. Einbeck’s position within the Hanseatic trade network enabled its beer to be distributed throughout northern and central Europe. To withstand long journeys, the beer was brewed with a higher original wort extract to improve its stability and shelf life. This strong Einbeck beer is regarded as the historical predecessor of the style later known as Bock. The name is associated with the Bavarian pronunciation of Einbeck after production based on this brewing tradition was introduced in Munich. The town’s individual brewing rights were consolidated in 1794 through the establishment of a communal municipal brewery. The modern Einbecker Brauhaus has operated as a public limited company since 1967. The brewery is particularly known for its different Bock beers, but it also produces Pilsners, country-style beers, pale ales, and alcohol-free products. Part of the barley used in production comes from the surrounding region, maintaining a connection between the brewery and the agriculture of Lower Saxony.
