Evian is a French natural spring water brand originating from the town of Évian-les-Bains in the Haute-Savoie department. The brand’s history is associated with the Cachat Spring, discovered in 1789 by the Marquis de Lessert. The spring’s owner, Monsieur Cachat, soon began selling the water to the local community, while the first thermal spa opened in 1806. The first bottling facility was established beside the spring in 1826, which is regarded as the founding year of the Evian brand. Production expanded during the late nineteenth century in response to growing demand beyond the Alpine region. Evian is now part of the French food and beverage company Danone and is available in more than 140 countries. Its water originates from rain and snow that fall on a glacial plateau in the French Alps. The precipitation then travels through layers of underground glacial rock for approximately 15 years, undergoing natural filtration and acquiring minerals. The water emerges in the Évian-les-Bains area and is bottled near the source without the addition of ingredients intended to alter its taste or composition. The company performs more than 300 quality checks throughout the production cycle every day. The brand’s range includes still and sparkling water in plastic and glass bottles, as well as limited-edition packaging developed in collaboration with designers and artists.
