Friesisches Brauhaus zu Jever is a German brewery founded by Diedrich König in 1848 in the town of Jever in Lower Saxony. It began as one of several small breweries operating in the Friesland region at the time. Following König’s death, Theodor Fetköter acquired the brewery in 1867 and modernized its production while expanding its market presence. He paid particular attention to distinctive packaging, advertising, and consistent beer quality. The introduction of Jever’s municipal water supply toward the end of the nineteenth century also contributed to the development of production. The brand was named after the town where it originated and where its beers continue to be produced. The name Jever Pilsener has been used since 1934 for the brewery’s best-known beer. Its distinctive character is associated with the soft local water, which allows the bitterness of the hops to become more pronounced. In addition to its classic pilsner, the portfolio includes light, strong, and alcohol-free varieties, as well as alcohol-free beer-based drinks. The brand’s visual identity draws on the flat landscapes, coastline, and maritime traditions of northern Germany. The brewery changed ownership several times during the twentieth century and has operated as part of the Radeberger Group since 2004.
