Percebe Gallego is a seafood delicacy offered by Galicia Marisco, sourced from the Galician coast of Spain. It is an edible goose barnacle that grows attached to rocks exposed to powerful Atlantic waves and holds a special place in the region’s gastronomy.

It is harvested by hand by local percebeiros, whose work requires experience and knowledge of the rocky coastline and sea conditions. Galicia Marisco sources its barnacles at fish auctions in Vigo and Marín, selects them individually, and packs them for dispatch the same day.

It is characterized by an intense, briny, iodine-rich sea flavor, with plump, juicy flesh inside the stalk. It is briefly boiled in salted water just before serving and eaten warm after removing the stalk’s leathery outer skin.

The seller recommends approximately 30 seconds of cooking after the water returns to a boil. It can be served as a standalone appetizer or as part of a Galician mariscada, accompanied by chilled white wine and simple sides that keep its natural flavor at the forefront.
