San Lorenzo Piano delle Colombe Rosso is one of the most refined and rare red wines produced by Girolamo Russo, representing the purest expression of Nerello Mascalese from the highest parcels of the San Lorenzo contrada on Mount Etna. The grapes come from very old vines, many over 80 years of age, planted at around 750 meters above sea level on sandy volcanic soils that deliver marked tension, finesse, and mineral precision.

Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, followed by aging mainly in large neutral oak, allowing the character of the site to remain at the forefront. In the glass, the wine shows a luminous ruby color and a complex aromatic profile of wild red berries, sour cherry, dried herbs, volcanic ash, and subtle spice.

On the palate, it is elegant and finely structured, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, focused finish that emphasizes freshness and depth rather than power. Production is extremely limited and only released in outstanding vintages, underscoring its status as a top cuvée.

San Lorenzo Piano delle Colombe Rosso is widely regarded as one of the most precise and age-worthy interpretations of Etna Rosso, valued for its restraint, complexity, and unmistakable sense of place.
