Gravner 8.9.10 is one of the rarest and most conceptual wines ever produced by Joško Gravner - a blend of three consecutive vintages of Ribolla Gialla: 2008, 2009 and 2010. The idea behind the wine is not to express a single vintage, but to showcase the continuity of the terroir and Gravner’s philosophy through three climatically different years.
The grapes come from vineyards in Oslavia, rooted in the characteristic ponca soil - a layered mix of clay, limestone and sandstone that gives the wine structure, depth and a distinctly mineral character. Harvesting is done by hand, and only perfectly ripe grapes are placed into the qvevri - large clay amphorae buried in the ground - where the wine ferments spontaneously and macerates on the skins for several months, without temperature control or enological intervention.
After this phase, the wine ages for many years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by extended bottle maturation before release. In the glass, it shows a deep amber-golden color.
The aromatic profile is layered and slow to reveal itself: dried apricot, stone fruit, herbal tea, honey, beeswax, walnut notes and a gentle oxidative touch. On the palate, it is dry, structured and textural, with tannins reminiscent of a red wine, a pronounced mineral backbone and a long, contemplative finish. 8.9.10 is not a wine that seeks instant charm - it demands time, attention and patience.
