Gạo Séng Cù Mường Vi is an aromatic white rice produced by the Hảo Anh agricultural cooperative in the mountainous Mường Vi area of Lào Cai Province. It is obtained from the locally adapted Séng Cù variety which has been cultivated in this area since 1996. The fields lie at an elevation of approximately 800 meters and are surrounded by limestone mountains. The crops are irrigated with water flowing from mountain springs and streams. Considerable differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures slow the ripening process and influence the characteristics of the grains. After purchasing, the paddy rice is dried, husked, sorted, and packaged at the cooperative’s facility. The producer states that no preservatives, bleaching agents, artificial flavorings, or grain-polishing processes are used during processing. The uncooked grains are large and elongated with a naturally white to slightly ivory color and no pronounced glossy surface. When cooked, the rice has a soft and elastic texture, noticeable natural sweetness, and a mild aroma reminiscent of young grain. The grains remain soft after cooling while staying sufficiently separate for everyday serving.
