Herdade do Mouchão Tinto is the flagship wine of the historic Herdade do Mouchão estate in Portugal’s Alentejo region and represents a classic expression of the winery’s traditional style. The wine is produced primarily from Alicante Bouschet, a grape variety that has been cultivated on the estate since the late 19th century and has become closely associated with the identity of Mouchão.

Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in traditional stone lagares with foot treading, a method the winery continues to use to preserve authenticity and careful extraction. After fermentation, the wine matures in large wooden casks where it slowly develops complexity and structure.

In the glass it shows a deep, dark ruby color and a concentrated aromatic profile marked by blackberry, plum and dark cherry, complemented by earthy and spicy nuances. On the palate it is powerful and structured, with firm tannins and balanced acidity that support the richness of the fruit.

The style reflects both the warmth of the Alentejo climate and the estate’s long-standing winemaking tradition. Herdade do Mouchão Tinto is known for its aging potential and pairs particularly well with roasted meats, game and aged cheeses.
