Cepparello is the flagship wine of Isole e Olena and one of the most iconic pure Sangiovese wines of Tuscany. First produced in 1980, it was conceived as a free and uncompromising expression of Sangiovese, outside the constraints of Chianti Classico regulations at the time.
The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese sourced from the estate’s best parcels, where galestro and limestone soils and higher elevations provide freshness, precision and aromatic depth. Cepparello shows a refined aromatic profile of sour cherry, red plum and wild berries, layered with notes of violet, dried herbs, spice and subtle earthy nuances.
On the palate it is structured yet elegant, with finely grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. Oak aging is carefully integrated, enhancing texture and complexity without masking varietal character.
The style is defined by balance and restraint rather than power, allowing the terroir to remain clearly legible. Cepparello is renowned for its aging potential, evolving gracefully over decades.
It stands as a reference point for high-level Sangiovese and a benchmark of modern yet classically grounded Tuscan winemaking.
