The company was created to revive and modernize traditional Caribbean beverage traditions, particularly those connected to sorrel, a hibiscus-based drink long enjoyed throughout the Caribbean.

The brand gained historic significance when Summers became the first known Black American to receive a liquor production license in the United States after Prohibition. Following a life-changing health challenge, he left a successful corporate career to focus on creating distinctive artisanal spirits inspired by his Barbadian heritage.
