Jakob’s Basler Leckerly is a historic producer of Basler Läckerli, Basel’s traditional spiced honey biscuit speciality. Founded in 1753, it still produces Basler Läckerli by hand in the Old Town of Basel and is the city’s only remaining historic Läckerli manufactory.

Over generations, the company grew from a Läckerli pioneer into a renowned Basel Läckerli producer. Johann Jakob Steiger shaped the manufactory around 1800, while Karl Jakob later continued its success as a prominent entrepreneur and celebrated Läckerli King. Together with Dr. Adolf Roos, he also developed VOLRO, a distinctive wholegrain rye cracker and savoury Swiss apéro speciality. As early as 1844, Baedeker’s guide to Switzerland recommended the manufactory, then known as Steiger Erben, to travellers visiting Basel.

Since 2017, Charlotte and Andreas Kuster have owned and run Jakob’s Basler Leckerly. With a strong commitment to quality, craftsmanship and carefully selected ingredients, they have revitalised the historic manufactory while developing new products, flavours and designs. The company and its products have received numerous awards for innovation, quality and entrepreneurship, carrying more than 270 years of Basel Läckerli tradition into the future.

Jakob’s Basler Leckerly remains a distinctly regional Basel brand, available primarily in Basel and through a small selection of high-end fine food retailers in Switzerland.
