Jean-Paul Balland Grande Cuvée is the flagship white wine of the estate, produced exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in a small 2.14-hectare vineyard parcel in the Sancerre appellation. The vines are more than 45 years old and are planted on a combination of limestone-rich Caillottes and clay-limestone Terres Blanches soils, which contribute both freshness and depth to the wine.

Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in large 600-liter oak barrels. Around 60% of the wine is then aged on its lees in these barrels for approximately 12 months, adding texture and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.

The bouquet reveals aromas of white peach, lychee, pineapple, citrus, herbs, honey, and subtle spice notes. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated yet remarkably fresh, combining vibrant minerality with hints of toast and gentle oak influence.

The wine displays excellent balance, a long elegant finish, and significant aging potential, with the ability to develop for 10 to 15 years. Considered the estate’s premier cuvée, Grande Cuvée represents a more powerful and sophisticated expression of Sancerre than the classic style traditionally associated with the appellation.
