Karavitakis

Liastos apo Romeiko

4.5 ·

Liastos apo Romeiko from Karavitakis is a naturally sweet wine made from the indigenous Romeiko grape, a variety historically linked to the Chania region of Crete. After harvest, the grapes are sun-dried for around 10 to 12 days, concentrating sugars and aromatic compounds before fermentation.

The wine follows a traditional oxidative style, with extended aging of at least three years in used oak barrels, which shapes its depth and character. In the glass, it shows an amber to amber-red color and a dense aromatic profile with notes of dried fruits, nuts, honey, caramel, and spice.

On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with a slightly viscous texture balanced by a firm acidity that maintains freshness. Flavors of dried apricot, orange peel, toffee, and roasted nuts define its profile, leading to a long and persistent finish.

It is closely associated with the traditional Cretan “Marouvas” style, known for its oxidative maturation and concentration. A key feature of the wine is its aging potential, allowing it to develop further complexity over time.

It is typically served slightly chilled and pairs well with chocolate desserts, dried fruit pastries, or aged cheeses, while also functioning as a standalone dessert wine.
