Katogi Averoff Tannat is a distinctive expression of this traditionally South American grape, adapted to the high-altitude terroir of Metsovo in northern Greece. Grown in vineyards exposed to cool mountain conditions, the wine develops a more refined and balanced profile compared to its typically robust counterparts.
It shows a deep ruby color and a structured body, with firm yet polished tannins that reflect both the grape variety and careful vinification. Aromatically, it reveals notes of dark berries such as blackberry and plum, accompanied by subtle hints of spice, cocoa, and sometimes herbal nuances derived from the surrounding environment.
The cooler climate contributes to maintaining freshness and acidity, preventing the wine from becoming overly heavy. Aging in oak barrels adds further complexity, integrating gentle vanilla and toasted elements into the overall profile.
This Tannat is well suited for pairing with rich dishes such as grilled red meats, game, or aged cheeses, where its structure and depth can fully come to expression.
