Merula is a distinctive olive oil brand from the Marqués de Valdueza family, produced at the Finca Perales de Valdueza estate in Spain’s Extremadura region. The name comes from the Latin word for blackbird, a species often seen among the olive groves of the estate.
It is made from a carefully selected blend of Arbequina, Picual, Hojiblanca, and the local Morisca olive varieties, characteristic of this area. The oil offers a medium-intensity fruity profile, with fresh notes of green apple, artichoke, almond, and a subtle spiciness. Its defining feature is the balance between rich flavor and versatility in use, making it ideal for everyday dishes, salads, fish, meats, and vegetables. It is easily recognized by its elegant matte black tin featuring a bird symbol and gold accents, reflecting a fusion of tradition and contemporary design.
