500 by Moksa Brewing is an ultra-limited imperial stout released to mark the brewery’s 500th beer, positioned as a bold, barrel-driven expression of their craft. It is a triple barrel-aged stout with a very high ABV (around 19.4%), matured in multiple bourbon barrels of varying origin and character, which contributes to its layered and spirit-forward profile.

The aroma is dominated by notes of vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and dark sugar, supported by a pronounced warmth from the alcohol. On the palate, it is dense and full-bodied, with an almost viscous texture that leans closer to a liqueur than a traditional stout.

Unlike pastry stouts, it avoids adjuncts and instead focuses on the interaction between the base beer and the barrels, resulting in a more refined, wood- and spirit-driven complexity. Subtle tannins from the oak provide structure and balance the sweetness, while the finish is long, warm, and slightly dry.

The integration of alcohol is notable given its intensity, adding depth rather than harshness. Due to its strength and richness, it is best suited for slow sipping, either on its own or paired with intense chocolate-based desserts.
