Pilsner Urquell is the original golden lager and one of the most influential beers in brewing history. First brewed on October 5, 1842, in the Czech city of Plzeň under the guidance of Bavarian brewmaster Josef Groll, this beer marked a true revolution in the beer world - it was the first time a crystal-clear, pale, and refreshing lager had been created.

The result quickly became the prototype for a new global beer style known as the pilsner. Pilsner Urquell is still brewed today following the original recipe and traditional methods that have been carefully preserved for generations. It is made using soft water from Plzeň, Moravian barley malt, aromatic Saaz hops from Žatec, and the brewery’s own yeast strain.

The brewing process includes triple decoction mashing, a complex technique that gives the beer its full, rich flavor. Fermentation takes place in open-top vessels, and part of the production still matures in oak barrels in the historical cellars beneath the brewery - just as it did more than 180 years ago.
