Prealpi is an Italian dairy company founded in 1922 in Varese, Lombardy. The business was established by Luigi Prevosti, who registered a small dairy operation in November of the same year. Butter was the company’s first and most important product and has remained central to its range. Until the Second World War, Prealpi distributed its products primarily within the surrounding region. The company continued to expand during the 1950s under the management of the founder’s son, Gianni Prevosti. A new production facility opened in Varese in 1955, after which distribution gradually extended throughout Italy. During the 1960s, the range expanded to include processed cheese, Fontal cheese, and other dairy products. Prealpi has remained under the ownership of the Prevosti family, with four generations gradually becoming involved in its management. Its current range includes traditional butter, churned butter, clarified butter, organic butter, lactose-free butter, and products developed for professional food service. The company also produces mozzarella, processed cheese, and other types of cheese while distributing selected products made by smaller local producers. Raw materials and finished products are tested in a laboratory located within the company’s factory in Varese.
