Purple Cane Puer Tea is a collection of traditional Chinese post-fermented teas sourced by the Malaysian brand Purple Cane from Yunnan Province, China.
The tea is produced from the leaves of the large-leaf Yunnan tea plant (Camellia sinensis var. assamica). The leaves are harvested, heat-treated, rolled, and dried to create a raw material known as maocha. It can then be compressed and naturally aged as sheng puer or subjected to accelerated controlled fermentation to produce shou puer.
The tea is best prepared in a porcelain gaiwan or Yixing clay teapot. The leaves should be briefly rinsed before being infused several times with hot water. It pairs well with dim sum, nuts, Chinese pastries, and moderately sweet desserts.
