Vinhas Velhas Tinto is a red wine produced by Quinta do Paral in the Alentejo region of Portugal, made from grapes sourced from old vines over 40 years old. The wine is primarily based on the Aragonez and Tinta Grossa grape varieties, which contribute to its concentration and distinctive regional character.
After careful hand selection of the grapes, fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures to preserve the fruit profile and structure of the wine. It is then aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop additional complexity and depth.
In the glass it displays a deep ruby color, with aromas of ripe forest fruits such as blackberry and plum, accompanied by subtle notes of spice and hints of dark chocolate derived from oak aging. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with smooth tannins that provide both balance and elegance.
Its vibrant acidity supports the richness of the fruit while contributing to a long and layered finish. Vinhas Velhas Tinto also shows good potential for further bottle aging thanks to the concentration of fruit from old vines.
It pairs particularly well with roasted lamb, grilled red meats, and aged cheeses.
