Romitorio di Santedame Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is Ruffino’s top-tier expression from the historic Santedame estate, crafted only in outstanding vintages and representing the highest classification within the Chianti Classico denomination. The wine is based predominantly on Sangiovese, complemented by a small portion of the traditional Colorino variety, sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the heart of the Chianti Classico area.
It undergoes extended aging, including time in oak and bottle, which gives it depth, structure, and long aging potential. Aromatically, it shows layers of ripe cherry and dark berries, followed by violet, sweet spices, tobacco, and subtle balsamic notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with firm but polished tannins, lively acidity, and a long, complex finish that reflects both power and balance. The style emphasizes precision, elegance, and a strong sense of terroir rather than excessive extraction.
Romitorio di Santedame pairs especially well with roasted or grilled red meats, game dishes, and aged cheeses. As a Gran Selezione, it represents Ruffino’s most ambitious interpretation of Chianti Classico, combining tradition, vineyard identity, and careful craftsmanship into a wine built for aging and serious gastronomy.
