Schloss Johannisberg Grünlack Riesling Spätlese is one of the estate’s signature wines and a symbol of its long tradition of late-harvest production. It is made exclusively from Riesling grown on the estate’s south-facing slopes in the Rheingau region, where quartzite soils and optimal sun exposure allow the grapes to ripen slowly. “Grünlack” refers to the green wax seal on the bottle and is traditionally reserved for the Spätlese classification, indicating that the grapes are harvested later and therefore develop naturally higher sugar levels.
The resulting wine shows pronounced aromatics, with notes of ripe peach, citrus, pineapple, and delicate floral nuances, accompanied by the typical minerality associated with Rheingau Riesling. On the palate, it is juicy and full-bodied, with a refined interplay of sweetness and high acidity that provides balance and freshness.
Its lower alcohol level enhances its elegance and drinkability. Due to the Spätlese style, the wine has excellent aging potential, developing honeyed, nutty, and more complex secondary aromas over time.
