Madrecuishe Joven Mezcal is an artisanal mezcal from Se Busca, produced at the family-run López Sosa distillery in San Juan del Río, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It belongs to the joven, or unaged, category and is distinguished by its use of wild Madrecuishe agave.
It is made from fully mature agaves that take 12–15 years to reach maturity. Their hearts, known as piñas, are roasted in an earthen pit and then crushed using a traditional tahona stone wheel. Fermentation is followed by double distillation in copper pot stills. The mezcal contains 45% alcohol, and two new agaves are planted for every one harvested to help replenish the agave population.
It has an earthy, gently sweet, and smoky profile, with hints of fruit and a long finish with lingering herbal notes. It also leaves a slightly drying sensation on the palate.
Producer
Se Busca is an artisanal mezcal brand from San Juan del Río, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is produced by the López Sosa family, who have practiced the craft for more than half a century.
Master mezcal makers Rodolfo and Mary López Sosa continue the family’s production tradition. The core range comprises three expressions made from Espadín agave: Joven, which is unaged, and Reposado and Añejo, which mature in French oak barrels. They share notes of roasted agave and mesquite, while aging develops additional aromas of wood, nuts, and dried fruit.
Se Busca is available internationally, offering mezcals suited to sipping neat and mixing in cocktails.
