Sirop Charlier is a traditional Belgian fruit syrup from Siroperie Charlier, made exclusively from local apples and pears, with no added sugar, pectin, additives, or preservatives. The production is based on the slow reduction of natural fruit juice, often over wood fire, which concentrates the natural sugars and develops a dense, dark-brown texture with pronounced fruity and gently caramelized notes.
The flavor is full and well-rounded, with clear expressions of apple and pear that remain dominant without becoming overly sweet. The texture is velvety and compact, making this syrup equally suitable for both sweet and savory applications.
It is traditionally enjoyed as a spread on bread and pastries, but also as an accompaniment to pancakes, cheeses, and desserts. In modern cuisine, it is often used in savory dishes as well, especially in glazes, sauces, and marinades, where it adds depth through its natural fruit sweetness.
The fruit is sourced from orchards in the Pays de Herve region, further emphasizing the product’s strong connection to local terroir. Today, Sirop Charlier is regarded as one of the most authentic expressions of traditional sirop de Liège, preserving a clear artisanal character and strong regional identity.
