St. Bernardus Abt 12 is a full-bodied Belgian Quadrupel brewed according to the original 1946 recipe from the period of licensed collaboration with the Trappist monastery of Westvleteren.
The beer is dark in color with a rich and firm head. Its aroma is intensely fruity, thanks to the brewery’s unique yeast strain, offering notes of dried fruits (plums, raisins), caramel, bread, and a subtle hint of spice.
The flavor presents a complex blend with a sweet-bitter finish, accompanied by a delicate touch of spice and coriander. The texture is full and creamy, moderately carbonated, with a warm alcoholic finish that complements rather than overpowers the richness of the taste.
Abt 12 is exceptionally well-balanced and pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as beef stew, game meats, and blue cheeses, and it also makes an interesting match with dark chocolate.
