Kasen Tokubetsu Honjōzō Maboroshi no Sake is a Japanese sake produced by Tamura Shuzōjō in Fussa, in western Tokyo. Introduced in 1973, it became one of the Kasen brand’s signature offerings, combining the quality of sake made from highly polished rice with an accessible price.
It is made from Japanese rice, rice kōji, and added brewing alcohol, using the brewery’s well water from the Chichibu–Okutama area. The rice is polished to 60% of its original grain weight, meaning 40% of the outer portion has been removed. Classified as tokubetsu honjōzō, it contains 15% alcohol by volume.
It has a full, rounded flavor with pronounced umami and a refreshing finish. It can be served chilled, at room temperature, or warmed, offering different ways to appreciate its flavor profile.
