Alabaster is one of the most emblematic and ambitious wines of Teso La Monja, produced in the Toro appellation as an expression of the estate’s oldest and most valuable Tinta de Toro vineyards. The grapes come from pre-phylloxera vines over a century old, which naturally yield very small quantities but deliver exceptional concentration and depth.
Harvesting is done by hand with strict grape selection to ensure that only perfectly ripe fruit enters the cellar. Fermentation takes place in small vessels, allowing precise control over extraction and preserving the identity of the fruit.
The wine then ages for around 18 months in new French oak barrels, with the aim of achieving balance rather than overt oak dominance. In the glass, Alabaster shows a deep, dark color and a layered aromatic profile.
Ripe blackberry, black cherry, and plum lead the nose, followed by subtle notes of spice, cocoa, and graphite. On the palate, it is powerful yet refined, with dense but polished tannins that provide structure without heaviness.
The acidity is well integrated, bringing freshness that is especially important in the warm climate of Toro. The finish is long and persistent, with a mineral edge that adds precision.
