Chios Mastiha is a natural, aromatic resin obtained from the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia), indigenous to the Greek island of Chios.
This resin forms tear-shaped droplets that solidify upon exposure to air. Harvesting involves making careful incisions in the tree's trunk and main branches, allowing the sap to exude and harden into "tears." Renowned for its distinctive flavor and therapeutic properties, Chios Mastiha has been traditionally used in culinary applications, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Its unique qualities have earned it a place on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
