Ethiopia Guji Sewda is a whole-bean specialty coffee roasted by the Turkish roastery The Sudd Coffee. The beans originate from the Guji region in southern Ethiopia which is known for coffees with pronounced fruity and floral characteristics. The coffee is associated with the Sewda processing station in the Shakisso area where small local farmers deliver hand-picked coffee cherries. It is grown at elevations ranging from approximately 1,850 to 2,300 metres above sea level. The Arabica varieties represented in the lot include 74110, 74112, Kurume, and Dega. The ripe cherries are sorted and naturally processed by drying them whole with the fruit pulp still intact. Drying takes place on raised beds where the cherries are turned regularly to ensure the even removal of moisture. This processing method contributes to greater sweetness, a fuller body, and more intense fruit aromas. The Sudd Coffee lists tasting notes of milk chocolate, lime, tropical fruit, and strawberry on the packaging. Milk chocolate creates a smooth and sweet base while lime provides lively citrus acidity. Tropical fruit and strawberry contribute to the coffee’s complex fruit character and lingering finish. These notes describe the coffee’s natural sensory qualities and do not come from added flavourings.
