Gran Duque de Alba XO from Williams & Humbert is an Extra Old Brandy de Jerez produced using the traditional criaderas y solera system, with an average aging period of around 18 years. Distilled from wines made primarily from Palomino and Airén grapes, it matures in American oak casks that previously contained Pedro Ximénez sherry, which significantly shapes its aromatic depth and texture.

The brandy displays an intense mahogany color with dark, polished reflections, indicative of prolonged oxidative aging. On the nose, it reveals concentrated notes of raisins, ripe plums, vanilla, caramel, and fine oak, accompanied by subtle hints of old wood and spice.

The palate is full, velvety, and structured, with well-integrated alcohol and layered flavors of dried fruit, cocoa, toasted nuts, and sweet spices. Its texture is unctuous yet balanced, leading to a long, persistent finish marked by warmth and complexity.

The influence of sherry-seasoned casks contributes to both sweetness and oxidative nuance without overwhelming the spirit’s core structure. Gran Duque de Alba XO is typically enjoyed neat, allowing its aromatic profile to unfold gradually, and pairs naturally with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, or after-dinner settings that call for a contemplative, mature spirit.
