Yamanashi Meijō is a Japanese sake brewery in Hakushū, Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture. The Kitahara family has brewed sake there since 1750, while the company under its present name was established in 1925. Its sake is sold under the Shichiken brand.

Founder Ihee Kitahara chose Hakushū for the quality of its water, which flows underground from Mount Kaikoma. That water remains central to the brewery’s approach: it aims to preserve the water’s soft, clean character in its sake and primarily uses rice grown by local farmers. Its range includes several styles of sake, with a sparkling line produced through secondary fermentation in the bottle. The name Shichiken comes from a pair of decorative panels depicting the “Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove”, presented to the family in 1835.

Shichiken is sold in Japan and through partners in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The brewery continues to develop its sparkling sake and pursue collaborations that introduce the brand to international audiences.
