Rodenbach Caractère Rouge is an exclusive variant of the Belgian Flanders Red Ale style, crafted by the renowned Brouwerij Rodenbach. This beer is created as a blend of traditionally fermented Rodenbach, which is then further matured in oak foeders with the addition of fresh cherries, raspberries, and cranberries.
After several weeks of maceration, the beer undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, developing a complex aroma and a rich, fruity-sour character. In the glass, it pours a deep ruby-red color with gentle effervescence and an expressive bouquet of red berries, oak, and subtle balsamic notes. On the palate, it is elegant and layered - dominated by refreshing acidity, tannic structure from the fruit, a touch of sweetness, and hints of vanilla and spice from the wood.
The finish is dry, lingering, and perfectly balanced. Caractère Rouge is brewed in very limited batches and is intended for true connoisseurs of complex, barrel-aged, and fruit-forward ales. Thanks to its unique profile and refined execution, it is considered one of the most sophisticated beers in Rodenbach’s portfolio, often compared to fine wines for its depth and nuance.
Best served at 8-10 °C in a wine or tulip glass, it pairs beautifully with aged cheeses, duck, or as a dessert beer.
